Car Crashes Into Apartment Building In St. Cloud

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A car crashed into a St. Cloud apartment building Sunday afternoon, according to the St. Cloud Police Department.

St. Cloud police said, just after 3 p.m. an officer responded to a call of a car crashing into a building on the 400 block of 14th Street South.

Upon arrival, officers learned 41-year-old Biriye Hirsi Osman, from St. Cloud, had been practicing driving and parking in a lot near the apartment. While practicing, he inadvertently accelerated instead of breaking, causing the car to crash into the complex.

Osman had a valid learner's permit and was with a licensed driver.

No one was in the apartment at the time of the accident. Osman and his passenger were not injured.

According to the St. Cloud Fire Department and the city of St. Cloud Building Inspector, two apartments will need to be vacated until repairs can be made.

It is unclear when the units will be fixed.

The cost of the damage has not yet been determined.
