Minnetonka Man Found Not Guilty In July 4th Boating Death

[CORRECTION: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that the authorities said the man had a blood alcohol limit three times the legal limit. Police reports indicate he blew a 0.125.]

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnetonka man was found not guilty in a boating accident that killed a 50-year-old woman last Fourth of July.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office says Matthew Allen Kinghorn, 45, was cleared Friday morning of a criminal vehicular homicide charge in the death of Brenda Lois Larson, of Eden Prairie.

Larson, Kinghorn and his young child were thrown from Kinghorn's boat on Cass Lake after he hit a wave while traveling about 25 miles per hour.

Fishermen rescued the trio, but Larson did not survive.

Kinghorn, the cousin of Larson's husband, admitted to drinking three rum and Cokes while driving, and his preliminary blood-alcohol level was 0.125.

The medical examiner said Larson, who was a swim coach, had died from drowning.
