Gophers' Bristedt Named Big Ten's Second Star

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- After helping lead the University of Minnesota men's hockey team to a weekend split with Wisconsin and another Big Ten title, Leon Bristedt was honored by the league on Tuesday.

Bristedt was named the Big Ten's Second Star of the Week. He scored three goals and added an assist in the weekend series against the Badgers. Three of the four points came in Saturday's 4-1 win over Wisconsin, allowing the Gophers to win their third straight Big Ten regular season title.

His short-handed goal Saturday night sparked the Gophers to the victory as it was the first of four straight goals. It's his third career award from the Big Ten, and all have come this season.

The Gophers are the No. 1 seed for this week's Big Ten Tournament and have a first-round bye. They will face the winner of Thursday's Ohio State/Michigan State game Friday night at Xcel Energy Center. The championship game is Saturday night, with the winner of the tournament getting an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
