Metro Transit Bans 'Hoverboards' From Buses, Trains

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Public transportation officials are saying "no" to a popular new device.

Metro Transit announced Tuesday that hoverboards are no longer welcome on public buses, trains, rail platforms and transit facilities, citing safety concerns.

The single-person, motorized transportation devices' batteries are reported to randomly catch fire, or even explode. There is currently an investigation into those claims by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The announcement comes after other companies recently banned the devices, including all major airlines and other public transportation organizations around the country.
