MnDOT Releases Road Projects Starting Monday

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- You may want to get some extra rest Sunday night.  Your morning commute may be a bit longer. This week, spring road construction ramps up all over the Twin Cities metro.

From Maple Grove to Maplewood, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has released a list of road projects starting on April 4.

There are pros and cons to spring in Minnesota.  Sue Hutings gets to partake in one of the season's happy affects. She and her family have owned Highland Nursery in St. Paul since 1947.

The garden store is three weeks ahead of schedule, welcoming visitors with a smile.

"They come in the door like this, and then as soon as they come in, their shoulders just go down," Hutings said.

Despite the bumper crop, Hustings knows spring isn't all rosy.

"Snelling was closed for a long time and that was my major route and I couldn't go through 35E because that was under construction," she said.

And this season won't be much different.  MnDOT is launching a list of projects - many along the I-94 corridor. One is in Rogers, where one lane will intermittently close in both directions, except during rush hour.

And in Maple Grove, the signs say it all. Work on a new Highway 610 interchange will be right outside the busy shopping center.

About 45 minutes east, patience will also be required from St. Paul toward Woodbury.

There will be holdups near East 7th Street and Mounds BLVD as crews are making new emergency pull off areas and repaving.

"You can only fight what you can fight, it doesn't do any good to get mad, you just have to deal with it," Hutings said.

She's right. Sometimes you have to move some dirt, to get to the prize.

The list of projects is long. Here is how your commute will be affected.
