Man Shot, Killed By Police In Minneapolis Identified

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the man who was shot and killed by Minneapolis police at an apartment building on Monday morning.

Not long after 5 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the 2100 block of Minnehaha Avenue on the report of a combative man armed with a weapon located inside the building.

Police said witnesses said the man was armed with a knife, and the building's manager said he heard a lot of banging from the apartment.

The manager told officers he suspected the man was under the influence of drugs, so he called 911. When officers arrived, the building manager said the man went at them with a large hunting knife before running into another apartment where a 62-year-old man lived.

Police reportedly forcefully entered that apartment to find the suspect stabbing the older man. That's when they opened fire.

The man who police said had a knife died at Hennepin County Medical Center.

On Wednesday, the medical examiner identified him as 50-year-old Raul Salvador Marquez-Heraldes. The manner of death was listed as homicide from multiple gunshot wounds.

The man who Marquez Heraldes was observed by officers stabbing with the knife was also taken to HCMC and was expected to survive.
