Federal Charges For Brooklyn Park Man In Heroin Death Case

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) --A Brooklyn Park man is accused of distributing heroin that led to a man's death, the U.S. Attorney's office said Wednesday.

Jaime Edward McClellan was indicted Tuesday in U.S. District Court. He faces multiple drug charges, including conspiracy to distribute heroin, distribution of heroin resulting in death and distribution of heroin.

U.S. Attorney Andy Luger said that it's the first time his office his charged someone with distributing heroin resulting in death.

"Heroin continues to threaten people's lives," Luger said in a statement Wednesday. "As our state continues to grapple with the dangers of heroin and other harmful drugs, law enforcement will remain vigilant in tracking down and prosecuting dealers."

According to court documents, the 31-year-old McClellan sold heroin to a man in Medina last October and warned him to be careful when using it because it was "good stuff." The man, identified as A.M., died after using the drug.

McClellan was arrested on Dec. 16. He had at least 15 grams of heroin and about $400,000 in cash in his possession when he was arrested, federal prosecutors said. McClellan also had a 10 mm semi-automatic pistol, which he was prohibited from owning because he had a previous felony conviction, authorities said.

According to the indictment, McClellan conspired with others in Minnesota to distribute more than two pounds of heroin between January 2014 and December 2015. He sold heroin on at least four occasions to undercover law enforcement agents last December, prosecutors said.

Court records don't list an attorney to comment on McClellan's behalf.
