Towns Earns Sixth Consecutive Rookie Of The Month Award

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Timberwolves forward/center Karl-Anthony Towns has the Rookie of the Year award all but locked up as he earned another Rookie of the Month honor on Friday.

The NBA named Towns the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for the sixth consecutive month. For those wondering, yes, that's every month of the season.

Towns is the eighth player since the award was invented to win it six consecutive months. Other players with this distinction include LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and David Robinson.

Statistically, Towns led all qualified rookies in many categories in April, including scoring (18.9 ppg), rebounding (11.7 rpg) and minutes played (35.6 mpg).

More impressive than his stats, though, were Towns' contributions to a strong final month of the season for the Timberwolves. The team went 4-3 in April, including a 3-0 West Coast road trip that included perhaps the Wolves' most impressive win of the season: An overtime victory against the best regular season team of all time, the 73-9 Golden State Warriors.

Towns finished the season in the top 10 of a variety of categories, cementing his status as one of the best young players in the NBA. He ranked eighth in rebounds (10.5 rpg), eighth in field goal percentage (54.2%) and third in double-doubles (51).
