Twins Hire Fmr. Manager Ron Gardenhire As Special Assistant To The GM

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A familiar face to Twins fans is coming back to Target Field.

Former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire is coming back to the team as a Special Assistant to the General Manager, the team announced Monday.

Gardenhire served as manager to the Twins from 2002 until 2014 when, after a rough season, the team did not renew his contract, opting to hire former Twins player Paul Molitor in his place.

Team officials say Gardenhire's responsibilities will include traveling to all minor league affiliates, serving as a special roving instructor and evaluator.

After a rough, 0-9 start to the 2016 season, the Twins are likely looking to shake things up and forge a new path forward for the rest of the season.
