Minneapolis City Bells To Play Prince Songs On Sunday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The tower bells of Minneapolis City Hall will play Prince songs on Sunday afternoon as the city continues to mourn the death of its cultural king.
Starting at 1 p.m., the classics "Kiss," "1999," "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "When You Were Mine" will sound over downtown, the city said.
Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, died on Thursday morning at his Paisley Park complex in Chanhassen. He was 57.
Following his passing, fans, musicians and leaders throughout the world expressed their love of the Purple One and the importance of his legacy.
In Minneapolis, an outdoor concert effectively shut down the city Thursday night, as local artists paid tribute to the man who put Minneapolis on the cultural map.
At First Avenue, the downtown venue Prince made famous in the 1984 film "Purple Rain," fans danced to his music until the sun came up for three nights straight.
Prince, a Jehovah's Witness, was cremated. A private memorial was held Saturday at Paisley Park for his family and close friends.
