Crucial Trial Set For Iowa Teen Convicted Of Killing Mom
OSAGE, Iowa (AP) -- A placement hearing is scheduled May 6 for a teenager convicted of killing his mother at their Osage home more than four years ago.
Prosecutors say Noah Crooks was 13 years old when he fired rifle round after rifle round into his mother, 37-year-old Gretchen Crooks, in their Osage home on March 24, 2012. He was convicted of second-degree murder as a youthful offender in 2013, given a deferred sentence and placed at the Eldora State Training School for Boys.
Under the deferred sentencing, he must have a hearing before his 18th birthday to determine whether he will be discharged or remain under court supervision after he turns 18. His birthday is in July.
Options include continued incarceration or another placement in a state-supervised facility.
