Jeep Sought After Early Morning Hit-And-Run In Chaska

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in Chaska are looking for a Jeep driver suspected in a string of Thursday morning hit-and-run crashes.

Police say the crashes happened around 1 a.m. A homeowner on Shadow Lane first reported that someone had smashed into his garage and damaged the cars inside.

In the nearby neighborhood of Autumn Woods, a bank of mailboxes was found damaged.

There were no reports of injuries, police say.

Homeowner Don Opheim says he heard a loud noise in the middle of the night and realized his home had been hit by a car.

"It took out all the brick and the garage door," Opheim said. "It is just a horrible violation."

Police say it is lucky the driver didn't hurt someone.

"They were able to just hit and run and leave," Opheim said.

He says he can fix the damage caused by the driver, but wants the person caught.

"It could've been somebody out walking, somebody could've been in the garage taking some trash out," Opheim said.

The vehicle suspected of the damage is a silver or gray Jeep Wrangler. The SUV is thought to have extensive front-end damage.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the SUV or the driver is asked to call a Chaska detective at 952-448-4200.
