Brooklyn Park Woman Charged In Bank Robberies

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 39-year-old Brooklyn Park woman faces three criminal charges in connection with bank robberies in the Twin Cities.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says Melanie Sue Carey was charged Friday with two counts of second-degree robbery and a charge of attempted second-degree robbery.

The criminal complaint alleges Carey robbed two Wells Fargo banks in April: one in Brooklyn Park on April 19, and another on April 28 in Richfield.

Carey attempted to rob a TCF Bank in Robbinsdale on May 5, but fled during the robbery after she thought the teller had pushed the silent alarm button. She was captured soon after.

A surveillance photo of Carey, taken during the April 19 robbery, was circulated by the media. Someone who recognized her contacted police and revealed her identity.
