The Prince Concert That Could've Been: U.S. Bank Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- While talks never got beyond the preliminary stage, on Tuesday details emerged suggesting Prince may have been in line to be the first musician to perform a concert at U.S. Bank Stadium.

According to reports, Vikings vice president Lester Bagley claimed on KFAN that the pop icon's managers were looking into staging a show there on Aug. 13.

Currently, the first two acts booked to play the opening-soon Minneapolis venue are country star Luke Bryan on Aug. 19 and metal gods Metallica on Aug. 20.

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority told media that the discussions had only been preliminary, and that as of his April 21 death at Paisley Park, only Prince's interest levels had yet been gauged.

Prince has shown a rooting interest in the Vikings in the past, even going so far as to write a song for their 2010 playoff run called "Purple and Gold" (anticipating Wiz Khalifa's far more popular "Black and Yellow").
