Wells Fargo Program Helping 450 Twin Cities Home Buyers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A multi-million dollar home buying assistance program is returning to the Twin Cities.

The Neighborhood Lift Program, spearheaded by Wells Fargo, will help more than 400 Minnesotans move into homes. The Neighborhood Lift Program dates back to 2012.

In that year, the American dream became a reality for 422 homeowners in the Twin Cities. In fact, the program made it possible for a family to move into a house in St. Paul.

The Neighborhood LIFT Program educates prospective buyers about the home buying process and helps them make a down payment. This year, Wells Fargo has made a commitment to assist 450 eligible Minnesota home buyers.

Those selected will receive matching down payment assistance grants up to $7,500 to buy a home in St. Paul or Minneapolis. So far, the program has completed 42 launches throughout the country. This is the second time the program has invested in the Twin Cities.

"It's really made a huge difference for us to be able to own our own home. We bought a duplex so we can rent out the upper unit and live in the lower so that extra capital really made a big difference in being able to start our own business in 2014," Caris Li said. "It just made a big difference in our lives to be able to have our own home."

If you'd like to apply for the Wells Fargo 2016 Twin Cities Neighborhood LIFT Program, the home buyer event will take place June 10-11 at the Minneapolis Hyatt Regency.
