The Minnesota Governor's Fishing Opener will take place on the Mississippi River in the St. Cloud area in 2017, according to Explore Minnesota, the state's tourism promotion office. The event will be held May 11-14.

"The Mississippi River is America's most-renowned waterway, and I am excited to host the 2017 Governor's Fishing Opener on its waters in the St. Cloud area," said Gov. Mark Dayton in a press release.

Next year will mark the 70th annual Governor's Fishing Opener. It will be hosted by the communities of St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids and Sartell.
