Report: Motorcycle Deaths Up 10 Percent

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Motorcycle deaths are the highest they've been in eight years, according to the Governor's Highway Safety Association.

The association said deaths in the U.S. spiked 10 percent last year, topping 5,000 for the first time since 2008.

The study attributes the increase to increase travel and better weather leading to a longer riding season.

Researchers said restoring mandatory helmet laws in 32 states would save more lives.
