WCCO Saturday Morning Links (May 21)

We have a fantastic weekend of weather upon us, and Natalie Nyhus and Mike Augustyniak covered all the great events and stuff to do on WCCO Saturday Morning. Here's more info on all of them!

Last week it was GrillFest, this week we're talking burgers! In fact, there is going to be a battle to see who reigns supreme in the Twin Cities! Head to Harriet Island Saturday for the 3rd annual Burger Battle. Tickets are sold out, but they have agreed to give one lucky viewer a pair of free tickets, all you have to do is tweet using #TCBB2016 for a chance to win!

An event Saturday wants you to Explore Downtown Living in Minneapolis. You'll see around 30 residential communities and enjoy special deals from local businesses. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This weekend, art lovers will have a great opportunity to tour private studios, galleries and connect with local artists. Over the last 20 years, Art-A-Whirl has become the largest open-studio tour in the country, featuring more than 600 artists. You'll see pieces of work made from clay, furniture, glass, painting, photography and more. Original artwork will also be available for purchase. Art-A-Whirl is free and goes from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday. There are more than 50 locations throughout Northeast Minneapolis taking part.

There's something about peanut butter that takes you back to being a kid. A young Twin Cities businessman wanted to make a better peanut butter -- and he does … from his apartment! Jason DeRusha profiles the man behind Buddy's Nut Butters in DeRusha Eats!

This week, Best of Minnesota is tightening the purse strings and digging deep. We went searching for the state's best thrift store, and asked you shoppers for your best bets. After tallying the votes, you sent Natalie Nyhus to a store with a lot of heart -- Common Closet Thrift Store in Wabasha. It's open Wednesday through Saturday. And nothing donated gets thrown out -- they pass along anything they can't sell to other organizations.

A Minneapolis woman went from being a twenty-something, happy-go-lucky free spirit, to a 33-year old single mother and widow after losing her husband to cancer. She's documented her life on her popular blog, and is releasing a memoir next week. Nora McInerny Purmort's debut novel, "It's Okay to Laugh (Crying is Cool Too)," is available for pre-order on Amazon, and will be in bookstores everywhere Tuesday. Nora also created the Hot Young Widow's Club and the nonprofit Still Kickin'. She writes for Elle.com, Cosmopolitan.com and the Star Tribune.

Also covered Saturday morning: The Fast and the Furry Races and Pet Expo.
