Police: Woman Struck, Critically Injured Crossing St. Paul Street

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A woman is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in St. Paul Monday morning.

According to St. Paul police spokesman Steve Linders, the incident occurred at around 8 a.m. on the crosswalk on Maryland Avenue and Greenbrier Street.

There, a driver of a westbound vehicle stopped in an outside lane and motioned for the woman to cross. The woman, who is in her 40s, then crossed the outside lane in front of the stopped vehicle, but was struck by another vehicle moving through the intersection in the inside lane.

The woman suffered major head trauma and was taken to Regions Hospital where she is listed in critical condition, Linders said.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 20s, is cooperating with authorities. Linders said there was no initial sign of impairment.

The crash remains under investigation.
