1 Dead In St. Paul Officer-Involved Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon in east St. Paul.

Police say the fatal shooting happened at about 2:15 p.m. on the 2100 block of Minnehaha Avenue East in the Eastern Hazel Park neighborhood.

Officers were in a home when they found a man in a bedroom, who then fired shots at them, according to police. Officers fired back, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tom Christopherson lives across the street from where the shooting happened, and was in his backyard at the time. He says he heard gunfire coming from the alley.

"I heard about three shots, and then a pause, and then probably about four or five right after that," Christopherson said.

He also told WCCO he saw a woman crying and being put in the back of a squad car.

Police say no officers were hurt in the encounter, and those involved are being placed on standard administrative leave.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating. The identity of the victim has not been released.
