Dayton Signs Modified Body Camera Bill

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Gov. Mark Dayton signed into law a bill regulating the use of body cameras by law enforcement Tuesday.

The Minnesota Legislature passed the bill earlier this month, which makes most footage from police body cameras inaccessible. Only the subjects depicted in videos can see the video, unless it involves an incident that results in great bodily harm.

Dayton told lawmakers he would not sign the bill unless a they removed a provision that allowed officers to review footage before writing an incident report. Dayton requested no other changes be made.

Legislators removed the provision and Dayton upheld his end of the agreement.
