Veteran ID Cards Now Accepted For Same-Day Voter Registration

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Secretary of State Steve Simon announced Tuesday that Veteran Identification Cards are now acceptable photo identification documents for same-day voter registration.

The move is expected to benefit over 115,000 Minnesotans, Simon said in a press release. Like other photo IDs that do not have an address, the Veteran ID Card will need to be combined with an authorized proof of residence.

"We should be doing everything we can to make it as easy as possible for the men and women who have served our country to vote, and that's what we're doing today," Simon said.

Thirty-two states -- including Minnesota -- and the District of Columbia now accept the Veteran ID Card as an acceptable form of ID for voting.
