Man Who Found Prince Dead Pens Op-Ed On Opioid Addiction
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One of the men who found Prince dead in Paisley Park has penned an op-ed about Prince's opioid addiction.
Andrew Kornfeld is the son of Howard Kornfeld, a doctor who Prince was reportedly set to meet with about his opioid addiction prior to his death. He was one of the people who discovered Prince's body in a Paisley Park elevator and it was he who made the 911 call.
In an op-ed written for CNN, Andrew Kornfeld says about his discovery of Prince, "those on the scene were distraught, which was why I was the one to place the call. But what happened has made me think, long and hard, about what steps we must take to prevent such entirely unnecessary loss of life."
Andrew Kornfeld called Prince's death "a tragedy beyond words."
"He was an inspiration to so many," Kornfeld said, "and in the brief time I spent in Minnesota, I saw just how good a friend he was to those closest to him."
The op-ed also discusses Prince's chronic pain, his opioid addiction and the plans Andrew and Howard Kornfeld had for treating Prince.
"What if my father and had been able to reach Prince just a week earlier," Kornfeld said, "like so many others we have helped take back their lives?"
