Police: Decorated Minn. State Trooper Arrested For DWI
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota State Patrol trooper was arrested early Thursday morning for drunk driving.
Fridley police say Chris Daas was booked in to Anoka County Jail after allegedly driving while intoxicated, and causing property damage.
Police responded to a report that road signs had been run over just after 3 a.m. on the 500 block of Osborne Road.
Officers soon spotted a broken-down truck nearby on the 7600 block of University Avenue, with Daas behind the wheel.
Daas allegedly smelled of alcohol, and when he was asked how much he had to drink, he said "too much." He then refused a blood test.
The state patrol says Daas has been a trooper since 2004, and has had one previous complaint that resulted in a five-day suspension for conduct in 2011.
He also has one life-saving award, a letter of commendation and a meritorious service award.
"Chris Daas' alleged behavior does not reflect our core values as an organization, nor does it demonstrate our expectations for troopers, whether on- or off-duty," said Col. Matt Langer, Minnesota State Patrol chief.
Daas is charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test and driving while impaired. His first court appearance is scheduled for July 14.
