'Madison's Place' Adaptive Playground Opens In Woodbury

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A new playground in the east metro is giving kids of all abilities the chance to play.

The Madison's Place Playground held its grand opening Saturday morning in Woodbury.

It took six years to raise the nearly $900,000 needed to build the park.

It is an inclusive structure designed for children with and without disabilities to play side by side.

The 16,000-square-foot area is wheelchair accessible, includes rubber flooring, sensory play equipment and a splash park.

Lynn Card lives near the park, and was at the opening with her daughter, Chloe.

"It's really emotional. We've been all over the city looking at the different parks, trying to find just the right park for her because she loves to swing, slide. She loves to be active," Card said. "We've been all over the city and none of the parks really had the right accessibility that we needed for her."

The playground was built in honor of 2-year-old Madison Claire, who passed away in 2004.

Madison had a muscular condition that kept her from most playgrounds.
