Several Events Planned To Honor Prince's Birthday

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Tuesday would've marked the 58th birthday for musical legend Prince.

The entertainment icon died at the age of 57 on April 21 after an accidental overdose of the painkiller Fentanyl. Tributes have poured in honoring Prince since his death.

There are several events planned in the the Twin Cities to honor Prince's birthday. Gov. Mark Dayton also declared Tuesday "Prince Day." Many fans are heading to Paisley Park in Chanhassen to leave the music icon birthday messages and tributes to the memorial site.

In his declaration, Dayton said "Prince Day" is meant to honor his contributions to arts and culture, along with his quiet philanthropic efforts.

There will be a screening of "Sign O' the Times" followed by a dance party Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at WXYZ Bar at Aloft Minneapolis. The Parkway Theater in Minneapolis is also hosting a concert and dance night on Wednesday.

Also on Tuesday, the Hard Rock Cafe at the Mall of America is inviting fans to visit anytime between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. The University of Minnesota's Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center is hosting an exhibit opening and literary event dedicated to Prince from 5 to 8 p.m.

Waconiaville Tours is also offering a Prince tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tour costs $89 and includes stops at Paisley Park, First Avenue, The Kid's Home, Capri Theatre, Central High School and the Electric Fetus. Pick-ups and drop-offs for the tour are at the AmericInn Lodge & Suites in Waconia.
