Parts Of 3rd Avenue To Close In Downtown Mpls. This Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – City officials in Minneapolis say parts of Third Avenue South will close to traffic starting Friday as crews work to make improvements, which will end with a protected bike lane.

The closures will begin Friday at 7 a.m., as crews remove the median on Third Avenue South between 10th and 11th streets. As crews work, northbound traffic on the avenue will be detoured through Sunday, the city says.

Meanwhile, the cross streets will remain open.

On Saturday morning, more closures will happen along Third Avenue. Between 4th and 11th streets, all southbound lanes will be detoured. Moreover, the northbound lanes between Third Street South and Washington Avenue will also be detoured, the city says.

On Monday, no streets will be detoured but lanes will be reduced as crews repave the roadway.

The city says that construction this weekend is part of a long-term project that'll bring a protected bike lane to Third Avenue.
