PrideFest Milwaukee Increases Security After Nightclub Shooting
MILWAUKEE (AP) — PrideFest Milwaukee stepped up security on its final day in response to the deadly shooting inside a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
Organizers say they would introduce full metal detection at the admission gates and increase security staffing across all areas Sunday.
The festival says the steps were taken "for the added safety and peace of mind of all visitors."
While there was no threat to PrideFest Milwaukee, the festival says volunteers started meeting Sunday morning with local, state and federal agencies "to provide the highest level of security possible."
In Orlando, police say a gunman wielding an assault-type rifle and a handgun killed at least 50 people in a gay nightclub before dying in a gunfight with SWAT officers. It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
