Target Field Under Transformation For MN United Game

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Target Field was under transformation Friday, as the Twins grounds crew worked to turn a baseball stadium into a soccer field.

The transformation is for Saturday night's Minnesota United game at Target Field, against Club Leon of Mexico.

The soccer field will be in the middle of the outfield, but will take up more space than that, so Friday crews were laying out nearly 13,000 square feet of sod to cover the base paths on the infield.

Painting lines and mowing a pattern in the grass came later.

Head groundskeeper Larry DiVito thinks it's a great set-up.

"I think it's going to be a fun time. I hope people show up," DiVito said. "We've got all the big league video boards. We've got some great seats out in right field, and it's going to be a fun time."

The transformation started at 5 p.m. Thursday and will continue until about noon Saturday. The game is Saturday at 7 p.m.
