Twins' Buxton, Jepsen Trying To Break Out Of Slump

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- We all want to be like them when things are going well, but the Twins have not had things go well this season.

You sometimes wonder, what is it like to be in a slump?  WCCO's Mike Max put that question to a couple players who are trying to come out of it.

Kevin Jepsen has seen a turn in his game and it wears on him. No easy answers for a difficult season.

"Mechanic stuff, keep working to get back to where I need to be. Once that happens, everything will click," Jepsen said. "I looked at video, I went back to last year, I went back to 2014 and compared it with video this year and it's not the same. And I think the results show that. So, doing my best every day to get back to that."

Byron Buxton understands from a different perspective. Can the "can't miss kid" figure it out -- or at least, when can he? He takes steps in preparation.

"I go home and study for about 30 minutes every night on the next pitcher the next day," Buxton said, "just to see what some of the guys like me see out of the pitchers. Just going up there, grinding, try to see the pitcher I been put against."

In other words, this game is unforgiving and requires everything. And the mental side will define you.

"Getting better with just being myself and going out there, playing my game," Buxton said.
