Fmr. Southern Minn. Teacher Charged For Recording Minors In Showers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A former teacher and boys basketball coach in Janesville, Minnesota is charged with secretly recording four young boys in the shower after a game.

Zachary Patrick Roberts, 28, is charged with four counts of interfering with the privacy of a minor and four counts of stalking a minor with sexual or aggressive intent. He was a teacher and a coach at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Schools.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident occurred on December 14 of last year during a basketball game in Wells. The complaint says he used a pen camera to record four boys -- ages 14 and 15 -- going in and out of the shower.

Players first discovered the camera when one of the boys attempted to borrow a pen from the coach's bag, but discovered what it really was.

Roberts agreed to a police interview later that month, after investigators discovered the video files on the pen. Prosecutors say he admitted that he'd used the pen to record the boys 40 to 50 times in the past. He also admitted he later used the videos for sexual gratification.

If convicted, Roberts faces a maximum of 48 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
