Accomplish MN: MAH Sole For Kids Foundation

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Chances are you have a pair or two in your closet, and wear them a few times a year. We're talking about flip-flops, and a north Minneapolis man is putting his 'sole' into making sure every kid who wants a pair can have a free pair.

Mark Hynes' penchant for shoes is anything but vain.

"When I got older I became obsessed with shoes, because I was trying to fill a void of something that I didn't have," Hynes said.

A supply like the vast one he has now is something he could have only dreamed of.

"I'm originally from Mississippi, my mom had 11 kids. She had the first one when she was at the age of 16 so it was hard," said Hynes.

He says growing up he only had one pair of shoes at a time. He was picked on for that, a feeling he wants no child to identify with.

"This is what I want to do, because I don't want another kid or a child or anyone to go through what I went through when I was younger," he said.

He's using his hands to make sure every foot is covered -- this north Minneapolis flip flop giveaway is only the beginning. His organization goes to shelters, to homeless people he encounters on the street, or anyone who is open to some new kicks.

Hynes' mom and friends help him out and volunteer with MAH Sole for Kids Foundation, too.

Hynes, who works at Medtonic, works a second job at Target Field to fund the non-profit he started five years ago.

"I just like seeing the kids smile," Hynes said. "That just means so much to me."

Hynes is always taking donations and they don't just have to be flip flops -- they can be any size, any style, new or gently used. He wants to touch as many souls as he can. You can help by going here.
