Patrol: 1 Killed, 2 Hurt In Head-On Crash Near North Branch

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One person died Thursday morning and two others were injured after a head-on crash near North Branch, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 2:33 a.m. on Highway 95 at Zodiac Street in Isanti County. When officers arrived, a 1997 Buick Century was heading west on Highway 95 when it crossed the centerline and hit a 2006 GMC Yukon head-on. The Yukon was heading eastbound. The Buick was on fire when first responders arrived to the crash scene.

One person, the driver of the Buick Century, was trapped in the car and pronounced dead at the scene. That person has not been identified.

Authorities, realizing the GMC Yukon could catch fire as it was near the Buick, used the bumpers on their squad cars to move the SUV to a safer place. A 36-year-old Mora woman, the driver of the Yukon, suffered serious injuries in the crash. A 12-year-old girl, a passenger in the Yukon, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
