St. Anthony Village's City Council Meeting Canceled

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- With a community still reeling from the officer-involved shooting of Philando Castile, the city of St. Anthony Village has decided to cancel its city council meeting.

According to city officials, the meeting was regularly scheduled for Tuesday, July 12.

"The decision to cancel the July 12 meeting was made after reviewing public safety and other issues related to recent events in the community, as well as city and staff resources," the city said in a statement. "After reviewing all of this information, the decision was made to cancel the meeting. The city regrets any inconvenience this may create for the community. "

Castile was shot and killed by St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez in Falcon Heights on Wednesday, July 6. His girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, live-streamed the aftermath on Facebook, which went viral.

The death led to protests that still continue outside the Governor's Mansion in St. Paul.
