Water Patrol Exercise Interrupted By Lake Carlos Real Emergency

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A training exercise on a Douglas County lake turned in to a bonafide rescue situation Wednesday afternoon.

The sheriff's office says a 12-year-old boy from Scandia and a 15-year-old St. Paul boy were spotted holding on to their submerged kayaks on Lake Carlos, where strong winds were causing heavy surf.

The boys, who were from the nearby Mount Carmel Bible Camp, were both wearing life jackets, but were signaling people on shore for help.

Luckily for them, the Douglas County Water Patrol and Water Rescue Team were on the lake for training purposes.

The boys were rescued and their kayaks were recovered, and they were brought back safely to the bible camp. The boys were not injured during their ordeal.
