Goin' To The Lake: Moose Lake (Day 2)

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- WCCO's summer road trip continues for the second week, and this time we're Goin' to the Lake in Moose Lake with Kylie Bearse, Molly Rosenblatt and John Hines!

Moose Lake is a city of about 2,800 people just about two hours northwest of the Twin Cities. Besides the numerous lakes and rivers in the area there are also a ton of great shops and restaurants to check out. Like any tourist town in Minnesota, the people here tell WCCO their population swells every weekend in the summer.

Agate Days and Lazy Moose Grill

Despite the flooding in Moose Lake, the annual Agate Days festival will go on as planned. The Agate Stampede is the biggest draw. A truck dumps  agates, quarters and gravel down Elm Avenue and then it's a mad dash for everyone to see how much of the 400 pounds of agates and $400 in quarters they can grab. The stampede starts Saturday at 2 p.m.

If you're looking for a place to grab a bite to eat, you can always swing by the Lazy Moose. It's right off the main drag in Moose Lake and they've got just about everything. They serve breakfast and lunch, and of course, don't forget about the ice cream, pies and coffee.

Fishing On Sturgeon Lake

For many Minnesotans, it's impossible to head to the lake and not do some fishing. That was the case for Molly Rosenblatt and Kylie Bearse on Friday. They had to take advantage of the sunshine, so they got out on the water with a local fishing guide, Jeremiah Johnson. See Kylie catch her first fish in the video above!

Agates and Art's Cafe

Vendors were outside the Days Inn in Moose Lake Friday afternoon selling agate-inspired items, including marbles made from agates found right here in Minnesota.

Art's Cafe has been in Moose Lake for 85 years now. If you can make it there this year, you can get in on one of their 85 cent specials to celebrate their big anniversary. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Molly and Kylie were live from Moose Lake Brewing Company on Friday! This brand new brewery on Moose Head Lake plans to open sometime in August. They plan to serve four flagship beers: a pale ale, an IPA, an EPA and a stout.  And the owners don't just make beer -- all of the furniture in the taproom was handmade by them as well.
