MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man and his 1-year-old daughter are dead after a semi truck struck a vehicle in Dakota County Monday morning.

According to State Patrol, a Kia Sportage with multiple passengers was traveling northbound on Highway 56 near 280th Street just after 11 a.m. The Kia passed a vehicle and cut back to the northbound lane, State Patrol said.

Sathre, 71, was driving the semi and slammed on his brakes. The truck then jackknifed, went into the northbound lane and struck the Kia's front driver's side, according to State Patrol.

The driver of the Kia, 31-year-old Jason M. Calderara, is dead, according to State Patrol. His 1-year-old daughter Melody P. Calderara also died in the crash.

Jason Calderara's wife, Elizabeth M. Calderara, 26, and stepson, Nicholas Calderara, 9, were also in the Kia and were seriously injured in the crash, State Patrol said.
