Xcel Energy Offers Up Tips On Beating The Heat

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Heat and humidity are making their way into Minnesota Wednesday afternoon.

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, an excessive heat warning goes into effect for much of the state of Minnesota. They will stay in effect until 7 p.m. Friday.

On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to reach 93 degrees, before humidity.

Then, on Thursday, temps could get close to 98 degrees, combined with the heat index it could feel close to 115 degrees.

Xcel Energy is advising customers to use their air conditioning to keep cool.

The energy company is also offering up other suggestions for keeping the house cool.

  • Turn off unnecessary lights
  • Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent or LEDS
  • Run washing machines, dishwashers and clothes dryers after the heat of the day
  • Change air filters in units
  • Use fans – ceiling, box, standing or clip on
  • Keep blinds closed

For those that may not have air conditioning, Hennepin County, Ramsey County and the Twin Cities Salvation Army have several cooling centers.
