Bus Offers Hydration Therapy Via IV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Drinking water was not the only way golfers stayed hydrated Thursday at the Riverwood National Golf Course in Otsego.

"It comes highly referred to me from a bunch of friends," golfer Jason Lach said.

The Hydrate Minnesota bus was parked out front, offering IV hydration therapy in the form of custom solutions of vitamins and antioxidants.

"How many people are running around the world dehydrated but don't even know it?" said Brynn Ahrens, CEO of Hydrate Minnesota.

Ahrens, a registered nurse, says she and her business partners wanted to start a hydration therapy service in Minnesota after seeing its popularity in other cities, including Las Vegas and Miami.

The company has treated everyone from the elderly to professional athletes.

"We are the only ones in Minnesota," Ahrens said. "We're the only ones from here to Chicago that do it."

Hydration therapy clients claim it helps everything from hangovers and headaches, to jet lag and the effects of aging. All of the IVs are administered by a registered nurse or paramedic.

"When we drink water we get less than 50 percent absorption of that," Ahrens said. "When I give you 1 liter of IV fluid it goes right to your bloodstream."

The Hydrate Minnesota bus, which makes stops at fitness centers and community events, can treat eight people at one time.

"After a hot day, a long day, it fills them up with vitamins and nutrients and they feel great," Lach said.

The company also offers private services, bringing hydration right to your home or office.

"All we have to do is have someone do it one time and they'll say, 'Just kidding, I believe you,'" Ahrens said.
