Man, 23, Charged With Murder In St. Paul Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting that took place in a St. Paul home Wednesday night.

Brandon D'Angelo Alexander, 23, has been charged with second degree murder, according to the criminal complaint.

On Wednesday, officers responded to a report of someone shot at a residence on the 2400 block of Youngman Avenue. When they arrived, they found a male, later identified as 19-year-old Tyshawn Aijawn Hill, covered in blood. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Witnesses said there was a large party at the house and an argument broke out prior to the shooting. Witnesses also said they saw a black male, somewhere between 6 feet and 6-feet-3-inches run out of the house after the shots. They said the man was wearing a short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans and had dread locks and a beard.

One witness said Alexander arrived at the party intoxicated and appointed himself as the bouncer. After he got into several altercations with guests, the witness told Alexander he had to leave. He left for a short time before returning with a woman and another man. Shortly after they arrived, shots were fired, according to the complaint.

Around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, police responded to North Memorial Medical Center, where Alexander was treated for gunshot wounds. He told police he was shot at a downtown Minneapolis bar, but could not provide consistent details, the complaint states. The woman who went with Alexander to the party -- identified as 21-year-old Gypsy Halla Baker -- also provided inconsistent details. Alexander left North Memorial after being treated for his wounds.

Thursday night, police located and arrested Alexander at Baker's residence in Brooklyn Park. Baker admitted they were at the party and told police that someone shot at Alexander first.

Alexander initially denied being at the party, but eventually admitted to his presence. He continued to deny shooting the victim, stating he was in the bathroom when the incident occurred, according to the complaint.

On Friday, a woman who identified herself as Baker's friend said Baker and Alexander went to the woman's house after the shooting. The woman said Baker and Alexander admitted to the shooting and tried to dispose of his bloodied clothing in her garbage. She also said Alexander had a black handgun with him at her home.

Though multiple shots were fired at the party, the Ramsey County Medical Examiner determined Hill was shot one time in the upper back and bled to death.
