Bridgewater Knows He Needs To Be More Assertive

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings checked into Mankato on Thursday, and one player deep in the spotlight is quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

"I'm glad he's my guy," head coach Mike Zimmer said. "Each week, we set up a way of how to try to win that particular game, and he executes it to the best of his ability. There's guys out there that throw the ball all over the place, and then in the fourth quarter they throw an interception and lose the ball game. He doesn't do those things."

"I'm going to continue to do what's asked of me and then some. I don't want to be that guy that I'm not. I'm not going to go out there and throw it all around and throw it to the other team," Bridgewater said.

But that's not to say the team doesn't see room for improvement. After being second to last in the league last season in both passing yards and touchdowns, there certainly is room.

However, what they're really looking for in terms of change is his voice as a representative of the team, speaking up more often about what plays he prefers. He says he knows being more assertive is something he needs to work on.

"We have an assertive head coach," Bridgewater said. "I want to be an image of Coach Zim."

Zimmer said he believes that Bridgewater is going to make great strides in that avenue.

"We have to play a certain way in order to win games, and I'm not going to apologize for doing that," Zimmer said.
