U.S. Treasury Secretary Touts Economic Progress In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The U.S. Secretary of the Treasury is in Minneapolis Monday, and said he's pleased with the city's economic progress.

Secretary Jacob Lew met with community and business leaders to discuss the U.S. economy and the Treasury's financial inclusion initiatives. He then met with Mayor Betsy Hodges to check out the development in Downtown East.

He said the whole country can learn from infrastructure in Minneapolis, like U.S. Bank Stadium.

"It is a story that explains why we need, as a country, resources in infrastructure -- so we can make sure that our downtown areas are revitalized, our people are connected, and able to travel by rail as opposed to car," he said. "And in a city like Minneapolis, it opens up the door to connect the area from here to the river."

Secretary Lew said he wants economic growth to feel inclusive and help everyone from students to business owners.
