Impressive Rain Totals Across Minnesota; Reports Of Damage In Willmar
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The weekend weather is going to be a welcome relief after what has been a muggy week and – after the last couple days – a soggy week.
Impressive rain totals have been coming in since Wednesday, with the storm spreading its way across Minnesota.
Measurements of between 4 and 8 inches have been reported in various areas of Minnesota – with Willmar reportedly receiving more than 8 inches by 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The storm system is starting to move out of the Willmar area, but not without leaving some damage. There have been several reports of standing water of more than 2 feet and multiple reports of walls collapsing due to heavy rain and flooding overnight.
As of 6 a.m. Thursday morning, the strongest storms and heavy rain were moving into southeastern Minnesota. Clouds will follow the storm system and it's expected to be muggy, but dry, throughout the day.
There is a chance for storms to redevelop over southern Minnesota, and they could creep close to the Twin Cities later Thursday evening.
Much of the lower half of the state is under a flash flood watch until late Thursday night.
Friday, expect more sunshine and decreasing humidity with temps in the low 80s throughout the weekend.
