Sheriff: Lightning Starts Fire, Causes Damage To Meeker Co. Home

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A fire sparked by lightning caused thousands of dollars of damage to a Meeker County home Wednesday evening.

The county sheriff's office says it received a report at 7:27 p.m. of a house fire on the 18400 block of CSAH 15 in Collinwood Township. The report said the house had been struck by lightning and was filling with smoke.

Emergency responders arrived and determined lightning struck the chimney of the house, broke a gas line and melted electrical wires, which caused the fire.

The fire, which was contained to the basement and main level floor area, caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.

There were no injuries.
