Police say at 8:10 a.m. the officer was heading southbound on University Avenue NE near Mississippi St. NE with emergency lights on attempting to catch up to a semaphore violator. As the squad car proceeded through the intersection, most traffic on Mississippi St. yielded for the squad, but one vehicle did proceed through and struck the squad.
