Vendors Making Final Preps For Minnesota State Fair

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Fair is just 10 days away.

While 10 days may seem like plenty of time, it's already down to the wire for hundreds of vendors. Many worked through the day on Monday to set up as some others are on their way in from other state fairs, like Iowa and Wisconsin.

Nearly 3,000 people work during the 12 days of the fair but before they get to work, many smaller groups are working to set up.

Sattler's Leather and Hats owner, Tom Sattler, traveled up from southwest Florida for the 10th time. Sattler said Minnesota's state fair is the busiest and biggest money-maker for him every year.

"It's really crunch time and there's a lot of preparation that goes into an event like this," Sattler said.

Sattler and his crew worked to build a barn in which to showcase their craft.

Bayou Bob's stand is in its 20th year and starting preps even earlier than usual as they work on a digital menu. Houston Simonette runs the stand with his father.

The pair traveled in early from Nevada but are Minnesota natives.

"We serve deep fried alligator, alligator sausage on a stick and sautéed alligator for the more health conscious people," Simonette said.

By this time next week, these vendors agree that every single one of them will be scrambling to get ready alongside their friendly neighbors.

"They're always willing to help out in any way they can and it'll be a zoo here starting Monday," Simonette said.

The fair runs Aug. 25- Sept. 5. The WCCO-TV booth is located on the corner of Carnes and Nelson.

Fans will be given away during live newscasts and custom made microphones will be given to people who participate in the booth activities.
