Mpls. Police Investigate Fire Started By 'Emotionally Disturbed' Person

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in Minneapolis were investigating Monday after receiving reports of an emotionally disturbed man starting a fire near the city's Uptown neighborhood.

Just after 2 p.m. the Minneapolis Fire Department tweeted that crews received reports of a fire in an apartment building on the 2800 block of Garfield Avenue S.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, reports stated that an emotionally disturbed person had locked himself in his home and had started a fire.

Police said he was also threatening to harm first responders.

Upon arrival, the MFD reported light smoke coming from the C side of the building. No flames were reported.

Crews were able to put out the fire around 2:20 p.m. and are being released.
