Gearing Up For The Great Minnesota Get-Together

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) – We are just hours away from the start of the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

On Wednesday, the Minnesota State Fair was already abuzz. Some 1.7 million people showed up to the fair last year, and great weather is predicted to start off the 2016 celebration.

One great thing about the fair is that it's constantly reinventing itself. New things this year include a day dedicated to Prince a Great Yoga Get-Together.

Then, of course, there'll be new foods. One rookie vendor is Oof-da Tacos, which has been trying to into the fair for years.

"We remained patient and persistent, and, 30 years later…it's well worth it," said Greg Parenteau, the man behind Oof-da Tacos.

His team made the five-hour trek from Erskine. He said he got the call to be in the fair last month.

"I couldn't say yes fast enough," Parenteau said. "I said, let me sit down."

Sitting is something he won't be doing for the next several days. He'll be busy selling Oof-da's signature dish: fried bread tacos.

"It's made fresh to order and stretched by hand," he said.

Parenteau will be among many other vendors working hard for the next 12 days, enjoying the sweet taste of persistence.

Some new foods at the fair include spam sushi, wild rice corn dogs and macaroni and cheese curds.

Transportation

There are be two new drop off spots for people who take Ubers or other rideshare services to the fair.

More information on getting to the fair can be found here.
