Sec. Of Interior Canoes In Twin Cities For Nat'l Park Anniversary
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The National Park Service marked 100 years just yesterday!
Here in the Twin Cities, we have a National Park around the Mississippi River. It's 72 miles of recreation area all in the heart of an urban setting.
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewel took a paddle with local officials and some kids from Outdoor Afro.
"This is a state that is known for its incredible waterways. We want it to feel like home to all Minnesotans and all Americans, not just a select few," Sec. Jewel said.
Minneapolis-based Wilderness Inquiry provided the canoes. It's a non-profit group with a mission to connect people with nature. They provide educational trips around the world, as well as on the Mississippi River for students and adults.
