Eagan Police: Officers Fatally Shoot Suspect In Driveway

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in Eagan say a suspect was killed Sunday in an officer-involved shooting.

Police say they got 911 call at about noon that a man was shooting multiple times outside a building on the 1200 block of Ironwood Lane and some shorts were going toward buildings. Authorities say the incident happened at the Forest Ridge Apartments.

Authorities didn't release any details on if there was a motive behind the incident. They have not released the name of age of the suspect, or if he is a resident of the apartment.

Laura Scott and her daughter, Lexi Scott, live in the apartment complex where the shots were fired Sunday afternoon.

The Scott family said Lexi is friends with the daughter of the man who died. The man's name had not yet been released by the medical examiner as of Sunday night.

"He was like a second dad to me," Lexi Scott said of the man who died.

"He was very kindhearted and I don't know how he could have been involved in something like this," Laura Scott said.

The Scott's said the man's daughter came straight to their home when she arrived at the apartments.

"I just let her cry," Laura Scott said "Sometimes you just need to cry."

Police didn't say how the man was shot, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. It's not known who fired gunshots first or how many shots were fired. Police say no officers were injured in the shooting and no other suspects are being sought.

The Eagan Police Department said Sunday night that three officers have been placed on administrative leave as a result of the incident, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings. The shooting is now under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Authorities say the last fatal officer-involved shooting in Eagan happened back in 1992.
